What it is
Karva Chauth falls on the Chaturthi of the waning Moon in Kartika (Purnimanta). Traditionally, married women in North India fast from sunrise until they see the Moon, then break the fast with their spouse.
Traditional significance
The day celebrates commitment and care. Many couples now keep the fast together, and many people mark it without fasting. Please choose what is safe for your health.
History and culture
Women gather in the afternoon to hear the Karva Chauth story and exchange decorated earthen pots (karvas).
A suggested practice
A moonrise wish · about 3 minutes
- At moonrise, look at the Moon (or imagine it).
- Silently wish health and happiness for someone you love.
- Tell them one thing you appreciate about them.
Affirmation
Love grows through care and commitment.
Reflection question
How do I show care in ways my loved ones can feel?
Fasting is optional. If you are pregnant, unwell or taking medicines, please ask your doctor before fasting.
