See it for your city

Please verify: Dwadashi ends before the next sunrise, so the fast moves a day earlier; 2027-01-19 is the Gauna Ekadashi. Some calendars use Tuesday, 19 January 2027.

What it is

Ekadashi occurs twice a month, on the eleventh tithi of the waxing and waning Moon. Each one has its own name and story.

Traditional significance

Many devotees fast from grains and beans, spend time in prayer and break the fast (Parana) the next morning during Dwadashi. Fasting is optional; a lighter, simpler day with prayer or reflection honours the spirit of Ekadashi too.

A suggested practice

A simpler day · about 5 minutes

  1. Choose one thing to simplify today: food, screens or busyness.
  2. Use the time saved for a few minutes of prayer or quiet.
  3. Notice what feels lighter.

Affirmation

In simplicity I find clarity.

Reflection question

What could I let go of to feel lighter?

If you are pregnant, unwell or taking medicines, please ask your doctor before fasting.
