Please verify: The tithi lasts under three muhurtas after sunrise; some calendars keep the previous day instead.

What it is

Amavasya is the thirtieth tithi, when the Moon is not visible. It ends one lunar month and opens the next (in the Amanta calendar).

Traditional significance

Amavasya is traditionally a day to remember ancestors (with tarpan or a simple prayer), to rest and to turn inwards before a new cycle.

A suggested practice

Remember with love · about 5 minutes

  1. Light a lamp (safely) for those who came before you.
  2. Recall one gift or lesson they left you.
  3. Set one quiet intention for the coming month.

Affirmation

I carry forward the love of those before me.

Reflection question

Which family blessing do I want to pass on?
